In the military, particularly in the army, commanding officers are notorious for ordering guys on off-shift to cover shifts. You can’t say no unless you aren’t fit for the shift, ie: you’ve been drinking. So guys typically keep a bottle at the door of their room so if their CO comes knocking they just take a swig and say “sorry sir, been drinking”

I’m like yep. I can do whatever I want on my day off. Leave me alone.

You guys were answering your boss???
I would turn my phone on silent on my days off.
Come back to my shift and the manager asked me why I didn’t pick up and I would shrug and say “I didn’t hear my phone ring”

It’s called brunch. You drink while you do it.

Yes, I’ve been on it for 5 hours. Cocktails at 5:00 is normal, isn’t it?

How else am I supposed to tell you no? If I’ve started drinking, I can’t come in, right? 🤷🏽

This reminds me of something my sister told me. She’s a nurse, and she said it was quite common to have a beer or a glass of wine just after work, just so that if you were asked to come back, you could say “I would, but I just had a glass of wine..”

I don’t know why people even respond. If I’m not on the clock then whatever it is is not my problem.

“Its kinda like a brunch at a family event” is a blank check to get fucked up any day at any time

Legit happened to me today…except it was 9am. Bitch, the schedule says I’m off today, I planned accordingly.

Yup. In my line of work that’s called a safety beer.

If my boss hits me up on Snapchat, I know it’s not actually urgent (and even if it is, it’s my day off. The lack of coverage is not a me problem)

Not in the food service industry. I live on the East Coast. Whenever that happens, I’m always out-of-state, lol!

Did this once to my boss and just sent him a video of me making mimosas and cocktails with a clock behind me (he didn’t need to know it was an older video)
